I kept referring to “punctuation marks” and meant to say “pronunciation marks”. At any rate, here is a quick review of the so-called “Pure Cambridge Edition” of the Authorized King James Bible. It contains ZERO typographical errors (Update 12-9-2020, I found one typo at 1 John 5:8 where “Spirit” is incorrectly capitalized. If this matters to you, then go with the Church Bible Publishers version of the Turquoise). The Turquoise Text Face has been out of print for many decades and is now back, being published by both Cambridge AND Church Bible Publishers. Its readability is superb due to the font, number of words per line, line spacing, and bold but not too bold print. Unfortunately, the readability is compromised by very annoying self-pronouncing words, which mar the look. The paper is very thin and easy to wrinkle. It is also missing the chapter descriptions that appear in the original 1611. On the plus side, it does offer italicized added words of the translators, the translator’s letter to the reader, the translator’s alternate renderings in the center reference column, and the subscriptions to Paul’s epistles. This would be a top choice to preach from due to a 10.5 font size and perfect word and line-spacing — extremely legible!
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A KING JAMES BIBLE
Look for the Original 1611 Chapter Descriptions
These chapter blurbs are often missing or messed with. Compare the chapter descriptions to a facsimile of the 1611 which can be found online. Make sure they’re correct.
Look for Subscriptions to Paul’s Epistles
These subscriptions were included in Erasmus’ Textus Receptus (1516) and then appeared in various Reformation translations, including the Geneva Bible (1560, 1599) and the King James Version (1611). They are in the manuscripts and should be in your A.V. — You should be able to find them at the end of these…
Look for A.V. Without Typos. The “Pure Cambridge Edition” Turquoise Bible Has No Typos
The Pure Cambridge Edition has various insignificant (IMHO) typos corrected. This typeface was printed from circa 1900 to circa 1970s and was then discontinued, but is now back, published by Church Bible Publishers and of course Cambridge.
